• A reading by longtime TWUC member, Lawrence Hill, best-selling author of The Book of Negroes, and 2013 Massey Lecturer with Blood: The Stuff of Life.
• A short history of The Writers’ Union of Canada, delivered by TWUC Chair, Dorris Heffron – what we’ve done for Canadian writers and readers, and the work still left to do.
• The Changing Face of Writing in Canada: New Practices for a New Industry – an on-stage discussion between award-winning novelist Farzana Doctor, (Stealing Nasreen and Six Metres of Pavement), journalist and creative non-fiction writer Eric Enno Tamm (author of the Ottawa Book Award-winning The Horse that Leaps through Clouds, and Beyond the Outer Shores), and Lawrence Hill.
We will be talking about the changing roles and relationships within writing and publishing, the influence of reader feedback, evolving roles for agents and publishers, and how writers are taking control of their promotion – and in some cases of their publication and distribution.
John Degen, TWUC’s executive director, will host and MC the evening, which will also feature book-signing opportunities with the participants. TWUC members in good standing will be admitted FREE, but you must reserve a ticket, as seating is limited.
To obtain a free TWUC ticket, please call the box office (416-973-4000) to reserve one. You will have to show your TWUC membership card when picking up the ticket from the box office. Non-member tickets can be ordered directly from the IFOA site. The regular cost is $18, $15 for IFOA supporters, and free to students & youth (25 and under).
See you on the 25th!
