BPC Idea Exchange presents Bookstore of the Future
May 18, 2010 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Join us for another thought provoking discussion on the issues, trends and portents affecting creators and developers in publishing.
What will bookstores look like in the future? In a recent article, writer Sarah Sheard imagines small neighbourhood shops that offer coffee, cake, and print-on-demand books accessed electronically and printed while-you-wait. How will the advent of the e-book and quickly changing technology affect bookstores and the bookselling industry in the future?
- Will writers soon simply upload their work onto an e-book retail platform and have it flow directly from there onto the latest e-reader?
- Or is the tactile pleasure of having multiple copies of books to browse through too much to give up?
- The bookstore is continually evolving as a destination and a place of community. How will readership develop in both the physical and online communities in the future?
These questions and many more pose challenges and amazing possibilities for the publishing world as we know it. Join the Idea Exchange for an in-depth and conjectural discussion about Bookstore of the Future.
