Since its inception in 2009, BookCamp conferences have united Canadian publishers and publishing professionals from all over the world beneath a shared goal of continued success in and beyond the twenty-first century.
BookCamp returns to Toronto in 2012 in unconventional fashion — as an “unconference.” What is an unconference? It’s a conversation instead of a keynote, where participants—publishers, editors, freelancers, authors, readers, technologists, book designers, book sellers, printers, librarians, and more—are encouraged to bring their own topics to the table, to lead and engage in open discussions about the challenges and opportunities faced by the publishing industry today. This year’s theme is “Choose Your Own BookCamp”: there will be no predetermined sessions; participants can create their own discussion topics and sign up for them on the day of the event.
As advancing technologies, the Internet, and social media continue to change the literary landscape, BookCamp provides an essential platform for professionals and lovers of books to come together and address the threats and successes of our industry, and more importantly, to examine our future possibilities.
