Celebrate National Poetry Month this April!

The League of Canadian Poets (LCP) is pleased to announce this year’s National Poetry Month (NPM) in April, featuring renowned poets who will present a series of readings in local libraries across Canada.  Throughout April, the LCP will also offer a unique opportunity for students to meet, listen and interact with professional poets who will visit Ontario classrooms. For the fourth year running, young poets will also have the opportunity to post poetry videos on our forums, alongside professional poets, filming in Canada and around the world.

2011 National Poetry Month’s Official Launch will take place on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lillian H. Smith Library (239 College Street, Toronto). Several well-known poets will present readings. The awards shortlist for the Gerald Lampert and Pat Lowther Memorial Awards will also be announced.

Theme for 2011:
This year, throughout NPM we will celebrate poets, libraries and the Public Lending Right Commission. Together, we will work to cultivate Canadian poetry in our communities, nurturing creators and free access to their work. As such, the theme for the 2011 LCP National Poetry Month is: Nurture / Nourrire.

Poets and hosts have set up readings and performances in public libraries, and each library will feature a Canadian poetry display during the throughout the month.  Cultivate Canadian poetry in your community. Nurture creators and recognize free access to their work. Foster the love of poetry at your local library!
